Welcome to AP Environmental Science
This course is designed to challenge you to think critically about the world around you and your role in it. Throughout the year, we’ll explore local and global environmental issues, analyze real-world data, and engage in hands-on investigations that connect science to everyday life. Whether we’re studying ecosystems, pollution, climate change, or sustainability, our goal is to understand how natural systems work—and how human activities impact those systems. Get ready for an engaging, thought-provoking journey as we explore the science that shapes our future.
Course Information
This AP Environmental Science course is also offered as a dual enrollment opportunity through Hilbert College, giving you the chance to earn both high school and college credit. The course is project-based, meaning you’ll apply what you learn through real-world investigations, collaborative research, and hands-on experiences in our community. From analyzing local water quality to exploring sustainable solutions on campus, you’ll build critical thinking and problem-solving skills that prepare you for college and beyond.

Official Course Description
The AP Environmental Science course is designed to engage students with the scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships within the natural world. The course requires that students identify and analyze natural and human-made environmental problems, evaluate the relative risks associated with these problems, and examine alternative solutions for resolving or preventing them. Environmental science is interdisciplinary, embracing topics from geology, biology, environmental studies, environmental science, chemistry, and geography.
Lab Requirement
Although there are no specific AP Environmental Science labs or field investigations required for the course, students must have the opportunity to spend a minimum of 25% of instructional time engaged in hands-on, inquiry-based laboratory and/or fieldwork investigations.
